Schoolnet/Powerschool Sync Updates & How to Stop Unwanted Notifications & Pop-Ups

PLEASE share with your teachers!

This weekend, PowerSchool will be migrating hosting to Microsoft Azure. As a result, PowerSchool will be unavailable from 5pm Friday, March 8th to 5am Tuesday, March 12th.

This will not affect the availability of Schoolnet, however, any changes made in PowerSchool Friday, March 8 - Tuesday, March 12 that are used in Schoolnet will not appear in Schoolnet until Wednesday, March 13th. Examples include: enrollment changes, student information, transfers, and attendance/tardy updates.

Additionally, areas of reporting will not be updated during this period. Schoolnet overnight processes will be restarted on Tuesday, March 12th. Teachers are recommended not to sync assessment scores from Schoolnet to PowerTeacher Pro from Friday, March 8th until the migration is complete on Tuesday, March 12th.

Homebase Maintenance

HomeBase Maintenance

The next Home Base maintenance weekend is scheduled for Friday, April 20 through Sunday, April 22. PowerSchool
and Schoolnet are both included in this weekend's maintenance.

PowerSchool maintenance will involve the implementation of the new state collection, School Start-Time and
End-Time Reporting, as mandated by state legislation G.S. 115C-12(18).  A script to remove the duplicate scheduling table records that prevent the Start-Time and End-Time Data Collection Autorun from running will also be implemented. For process instructions, please review the quick reference document (QRD) School Start-Times and End-Times
available on the NC SIS site to accommodate users with the new reporting requirements.

Schoolnet maintenance will involve a 19.1.11 version update that corrects reported issues that do not impact NC. Schoolnet will also load Gap Match and Graphic Gap Match Certica items that will require re-indexing, lasting approximately four hours.  All Schoolnet maintenance is expected to be completed Saturday, April 21 at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Home Base will be brought down Friday, April 20 at 5 p.m. and returned to service no later than Monday, April 23
at 6 a.m.  Once maintenance is completed, a message will be sent to notify users that the applications are up and available for use. If there is a delay in returning the applications to service, users will be notified.

Student Accounts for PowerSchool/Schoolnet Important Updates-Please Share!

Student accounts for PowerSchool/Schoolnet are now managed by Rapid Identity which means that logins from last year and last year's method of accessing student logins may not work. According to DPI, students in grades 6-12 MUST claim their NCEdCloud account in order to access PowerSchool/Schoolnet.

Teachers of K-5 students have access to a list of their students new account usernames and passwords under their NCEdCloud account.

We have prepared documentation for how 6-12 students can claim their accounts as well as how K-5 teachers can access their students account information.

Every school has a NCEdCloud help desk support person to facilitate account resets. Thank you for your support in sharing this information with your staff to ensure access to all instructional tools available.

How to Claim Your NCEdCloud IAM Account and Important Staff Information!

On July 6th, 2015 you will need to use a new NCEdCloud IAM account to access PowerSchool and the Home Base suite.

The NCEdCloud IAM account is a single-sign on service that is mandated by DPI. The process to claim your account is simple and takes just a few minutes. Your new account is based on your current PowerSchool UserID number. All staff must claim their accounts prior to July 6th, 2015 or they will be unable to access PowerSchool or the Home Base suite until they claim their account.

One benefit to this process is that teachers will have access to their student's usernames and passwords to aid in access to PowerSchool.

To help you prepare your staff, we have created a step-by-step training video as well as a flyer for you to share.

Please help us get the word out about this important process to minimize disruptions next year.

Here is the three-minute instructional video (click here for the direct link):

Home Base: Schoolnet

Schoolnet professional development is available in MyLearningPlan!  Sign up if you are interested, and please pass this information on to the teachers in your school!!

Schoolnet is the Instructional Improvement System in Home Base. This is where teachers, parents, and students can access data and resources to inform decision making related to instruction and assessment. Home Base is including items from Thinkfinity, Khan, SAS, Pearson Next Gen, PBS, as well as other vendors. Of major interest to some teachers, ClassScape items will now live in Home Base.

Please log into MyLearningPlan and search the district catalog for Schoolnet or Home Base.  There are six sessions being offered.  Please choose one of the six sessions to attend.

The hands-on portion of this professional development opportunity will include built-in time to create a formative assessment useful to the teacher.   Teachers are highly encouraged to bring material/content to aid in the assessment creation.

PowerSource

We hope you are enjoying your summer vacation--especially the 4th of July holiday weekend.

Don't forget you can get started learning about PowerTeacher now! You will hear a few new terms this school year:

  • PowerTeacher - what teachers will use to take attendance and enter grades (just like NCWise's TAM)
  • PowerSchool - what all other staff will use to access student information (administrators, counselors, school nurses, etc.)
  • PowerSource - a repository of training videos and knowledgebase documentation

At some point around mid-June, you should have received an email from powersource@pearson.com to activate your PowerSource account.  You can utilize the Training tab to access the Distance Learning modules.  This way, you can get a head start in learning the program before the next school year begins.   When searching for training, filter results by Product (PowerSchool) and Roles (Teachers).

Each school has a PowerTeacher representative (you might be one) to assist in PowerTeacher training during the workdays.  While many of us are not spearheading this effort at our schools, to help our colleagues with basic information, going through a few of the training modules will allow us to be of assistance at the beginning of the school year.
