 As part of the Digital-Age Learning Initiative (DLI) and in order to best meet the needs of our stakeholders, the NC Department of Public Instruction and the Friday Institute at NC State University are surveying educators in order to identify high priority areas for professional learning support for next year and beyond. Wednesday's Web Tool: Triventy Assessment tool
This week we are sharing another assessment tool that your students are going to like. This tool is much like many we have featured in the past: Kahoot, Quizizz, etc, but has some unique features that make it just a little different!
To get started sign up for an Education account by going to Triventy.com and selecting Education at the top of the screen.
Like many of the tools out there you can use your google account to sign up - this makes it easy to recall your user information.
Once you have an account you will want to start your first "game" you can include multiple choice or survey style questions. There are may public games that you can copy and customize.
As you add questions you will see a few new things.
1. You can add a collaborator to help you - this is great for co-teaching situations or for PLC's making the assessment together.
2. You can add a clue that will shown to the students who are struggling
3. You can add a tidbit to share after the correct answer has been revealed.
Once you have your questions all set up you will go to the "Run Game" option to get the student link and have them join your session via the link or by scanning the provided QRCode.
Once all players have joined the game they will see information on their screen to answer and once the time is up it will give them immediate feedback regarding their answers. As you move through the game you can have the leaderboard display those with the most correct and timely answers.
The only drawback to this tool is that the data isn't stored, so you will need to capture the information about their results immediately following the completion of the game.

Most RCD unit assessments are also available in Schoolnet so students can complete the assessment electronically and their grades will appear instantly in your gradebook.
Register today for one of our fall Schoolnet sessions to learn how to access and use these instructional resources with your students.
We are offering two sessions this fall:
Getting Started with Schoolnet:
Learn how to create assessments in Schoolnet and access over 100,000 vetted instructional materials aligned to North Carolina Essential and Common Core Standards. This session is intended for novice users and will cover the basics of designing and sharing assessments. This session is specifically for core content area teachers in grades 3-12.
Dig Deeper with Schoolnet:
Have you given an assessment in Schoolnet and wondered...ok what now? Join us in this session to dig deeper into the data analysis and reports available in Schoolnet. Learn about the new co-authoring feature to drive your PLC to the next level in creating common assessments and data analysis. This session is for users who have a basic understanding of creating assessments in Schoolnet and have given at least two assessments this semester to their students.

Home Base: Schoolnet
Schoolnet professional development is available in MyLearningPlan! Sign up if you are interested, and please pass this information on to the teachers in your school!!
Schoolnet is the Instructional Improvement System in Home Base. This is where teachers, parents, and students can access data and resources to inform decision making related to instruction and assessment. Home Base is including items from Thinkfinity, Khan, SAS, Pearson Next Gen, PBS, as well as other vendors. Of major interest to some teachers, ClassScape items will now live in Home Base.
Please log into MyLearningPlan and search the district catalog for Schoolnet or Home Base. There are six sessions being offered. Please choose one of the six sessions to attend.
The hands-on portion of this professional development opportunity will include built-in time to create a formative assessment useful to the teacher. Teachers are highly encouraged to bring material/content to aid in the assessment creation.
