Mark your calendars! Our second session of facilitated online courses will be open for registration soon. Below is the list of instructor–facilitated online courses being offered by Educator Effectiveness, NCDPI for the Fall Session 2. (Remember, that unlike these facilitated courses, our self-paced modules are always open for enrollment.) Our facilitated courses provide the opportunity to interact with peers and an instructor along with high-quality professional development. They combine the flexibility of working from anywhere at any time, and the benefits of working with a cohort of peers.

Additionally, we will also offer a session of Effective Digital Strategies for Teaching and Learning in the K-12 Classroom: A PD MOOClet. Duration: 6 Weeks (20 hours) Credits: 2 CEUs Maximum registration: 250, minimum registration 100
Please note that this course is structured differently from the traditional instructor-led courses above. This course is designed for active, collaborative learners who are self-driven, motivated, flexible and enjoy sharing information and resources. There is less-instructor interaction and relies heavily on participant interaction. It focuses on using digital tools and strategies to support teaching and learning and enriching individuals’ knowledge through developing communities of practice across the state. In this course, we will look at the 4Cs - Creativity, Critical Thinking, Communication and Collaboration; keystones for the 21st century classroom. This MOOClet:
- Is learner-centered, focusing on participants’ professional needs in different disciplines and grade levels
- Focuses on participants as creators of content as much as they are “consumers” of content
- Involves extensive peer-to-peer communication
- Includes a larger number of students than a typical facilitator-led course and less facilitator feedback.
These courses are available at no cost to North Carolina educators and will be facilitated by DPI professionals. The courses are completed entirely online. Participants are expected to meet all weekly deadlines in order to receive CEUs. Partial credit will not be given. Media Monday: Summer Reading through myON & PD Opportunity
Summer Reading!
As the end of the year approaches, we begin to think about the summer. June Atkinson, our state Superintendent has sent a letter regarding the "Give Five, Read Five" program where schools collect books to send home with students to read over the summer. This year there is a new component to this initiative called myON reader provided by Capstone. This online reader gives students access to digital content over the summer. We have signed up and are working to create the accounts for all K-5 Students, there will be a future blog post with directions for accessing. However, I wanted to give you a heads up so you could begin to consider how you will share this information with your staff and students. Here is the link to the list of books titles that have been shared with me if you would like to look at them. If any Middle School or High School would like to participate as well, just let me know by Friday, April 22.

April is School Library Media Month - this is a great time to share with your staff what your vision of your program and all the great things happening in your media center! Thanks for all you do!

The Planning Committee For the 11th Annual Librarian to Librarian Networking Summit Is Accepting Proposals
The Librarian to Librarian Networking Summit is designed to encourage K-12 school media coordinators and library science students preparing to become media coordinators to communicate with each other, and the educational community at large, in order to promote the essential role they play in student academic success. The sessions, covering a wide variety of topics, will be primarily comprised of roundtable discussions facilitated by experts in the profession. Summit attendees will be given an opportunity to attend sessions of their choice. This year’s summit will be held on March 19, 2016 with “Building Communities” as the theme.
If you would like to serve as a facilitator for the 2016 summit, complete the online Facilitator Proposal Form. Proposals received by Monday, January 25, 2016, will receive full consideration. Acceptance notifications will be emailed by Monday, February 1, 2016. If you have not been contacted by this date, please contact me at zuberbierd14@ecu.edu or 252-328-0406. If your proposal is selected, the registration fee for you and your co-facilitator will be waived.
We are requesting individuals to "facilitate" and not "present" since the primary purpose of the Summit is for attendees to network with colleagues and discuss current professional topics in a roundtable setting. Responsibilities of the facilitator include:
· Guiding session discussion and learning
· Providing interactive activities when possible
· Answering questions
· Recommending resources
· Providing handouts if appropriate.
Sessions are 75-minutes long, with the first session beginning at 10:00 am. A limited number of instructional sessions will also be accepted. To view sessions and facilitator biographies from previous summits, visit our Previous Networking Summits web page.
