With the recent addition of calendar integration in Google Classroom, a few people have asked us about merging calendars. Unfortunately in Google Calendar, you cannot merge calendars and there is no way in Google Classroom to select a different calendar to use other than the one that is automatically created.</div>

There is a work around for merging calendars, you can export events from one Google Calendar and then import those events to a different Google Calendar. The export/import process does not have to be completed under the same Google account, once the events are exported, that person can share the exported event file with anyone to import on their Google Calendar.</div>

There are a couple of situations you may find this process very useful for:</div>

<li style="text-align: left;">A public school calendar is owned by someone who leaves the school and someone else needs to take over posting public school events.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">A teacher has created a public calendar for students/parents with homework or school events and would now like to transfer those events to their new Google Classroom calendar.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">A team calendar is owned by someone who is leaving/no longer on that team and someone else would like to create a new team calendar and import those events.</li>

Friday Google Tidbit: Add Rooms to Google Calendar Invites

Google Calendar has added a new feature to invitations that allows you to add recently used rooms to the invitation. This will save you time if you frequently meet in the same room.

Friday Google Tidbit: Major Updates to Gmail and Google Calendar Apps for iOS

Happy Friday!

Last week Google released a major update to their Gmail and Calendar apps for iOS devices. Both apps have a new look and features to help you stay organized on the go.

With the latest version of the Gmail app you can now:

Undo Send, just like on the desktop version, this is great to prevent typos or missing information.
Search faster with instant results and spelling suggestions (great for flubby text fingers like mine).
Swipe to archive or delete emails.

In the updated Google Calendar app, you will notice several new features:

You can rotate your device to see your calendar in month or week view.
Spotlight Search support, so you can search for events, reminders, and goals in the Apple Spotlight Search.
Alternate calendar support for Lunar, Islamic, or Hindu calendars.

Friday Google Tidbit: New Reminders Feature on Google Calendar!

Happy Friday!

This week Google has released a new feature on Google Calendars to help you keep track of your to-do list! You can now create reminders in Google Calendar for certain days or times.

Reminders carry forward to the next day until you mark them as done.

Reminders are private to the calendar owner, even if the calendar is shared, other users will not be able to see calendar reminders.

The reminders tool is being released to all users over the next week.

Friday Google Tidbit: Instructions for Exporting and Importing Events from Google Calendar

Happy Friday!

With the recent addition of calendar integration in Google Classroom, a few people have asked us about merging calendars. Unfortunately in Google Calendar, you cannot merge calendars and there is no way in Google Classroom to select a different calendar to use other than the one that is automatically created.

There is a work around for merging calendars, you can export events from one Google Calendar and then import those events to a different Google Calendar. The export/import process does not have to be completed under the same Google account, once the events are exported, that person can share the exported event file with anyone to import on their Google Calendar.

There are a couple of situations you may find this process very useful for:

A public school calendar is owned by someone who leaves the school and someone else needs to take over posting public school events.
A teacher has created a public calendar for students/parents with homework or school events and would now like to transfer those events to their new Google Classroom calendar.
A team calendar is owned by someone who is leaving/no longer on that team and someone else would like to create a new team calendar and import those events.

Friday Google Tidbit - Google Classroom now has Calendar Integration!

The latest update to Google Classroom has added a helpful feature to keep students and parents informed of upcoming assignments. Google Classroom now integrates with Google Calendar so that all activities are instantly posted to Google Calendar as they a assigned.

To start using this feature, go to the About tab in Google Classroom.

You will now see two new options:

View in Classroom
Open in Google Calendar.

Choosing View in Classroom will display a calendar within Google Classroom that displays any announcements, assignments or discussions that have been posted.

Choosing Open in Google Calendar will open up your Google Calendar which will now have a new calendar added. This calendar will have the same name as the title of your Google Classroom.

If the box in your About tab looks says No Google Calendar created, it simply means that you have not yet posted in your Google Classroom.

Once you post your first assignment, announcement or discussion, a Google Calendar created specifically for your class will be generated.

Sharing Your Calendar

Once you begin adding items to the calendar, you will likely want to share it outside of Google Classroom so that the parents of your students will be able to see due dates.

In order to do this, open your calendar and click the gear symbol in the upper right corner. Then click on settings

On the next screen click the calendars link in the upper left hand corner.

This will open up a screen listing all of your calendars and calendars that are shared with you. From this screen you can edit the sharing settings. On the right hand side, click on the Shared: Edit setting link.

On the next screen, you will need to select Share this calendar with other AND Make this calendar public. If you do not choose to make the calendar public then you will not be able to share it with parents. Make sure to click Save.

After clicking Save, you will be brought back to the previous screen,

On the next screen you will have two sharing options.

Embed code - This will allow you to place the calendar in a web page by inserting the copying and pasting the html code.

Direct link - This will give you a web address that you can share.

Click the Blue HTML button.

This will give you the web address that you can share.

Friday Google Tidbit: New Calendar App Available for Android

Google has released a new calendar app for Android devices that is sleek and automatically adds calendar details from your email. Have flight reservations? Your itinerary details and weather forecast are added to the calendar screen. Another great improvement is the ability to see multiple calendars at one time clearly.

Google is in the process of developing an Apple version.
