Simply open your Chrome browser and type in a location and the word "destination" to instantly see travel transportation options, attractions, and directions for that location.</span></div>

This week Google updated Google Search to include a new "knowledge graph" when you search for a famous person, location, or health condition. The knowledge graph contains peer reviewed information on the right side of the search results. This could be a great way to introduce a topic or have students find quick facts.</div>

Google Search has some new search tools that just might make your everyday tasks and searches a little easier. Need a timer to display while your students are taking an assessment?  Type "timer" into Google Search and you will get a simple timer to display.</div>

Another search tool is to type "define:" and a word you would like to define. Google Search will bring up a dictionary with definitions and the ability to hear the word pronounced correctly.</div>

My favorite Google Search tool is the unit converter, you can convert money, measurements, temperatures, and more!  Type in "unit converter" or what you want to convert, such as "feet to miles" to bring up this nifty tool.</div>

Simply open your Chrome browser and type in a location and the word "destination" to instantly see travel transportation options, attractions, and directions for that location.

I searched for California destinations and was able to view top destinations and travel arrangements by location:

This new feature is available on the Chrome Mobile browser as well:

This new feature would be great for students researching different locations or planning a trip as part of an interdisciplinary project.

Friday Google Tidbit: 25 Easy Google Search Shortcuts

Did you know that Google Search can instantly become a timer, calculator, unit converter, dictionary, translator, map, calorie counter, world clock, or weather display with a simple keyword search?

Scholastic has compiled a great list of 25 Google Search Shortcuts to put knowledge at your fingertips.

Here are a few of my new favorites!

Debating between a taco or pizza for lunch? Use "vs" in Google Search to pull up a nutritional comparison:

Need to check the weather for practice? Type in "temperature" to display a local forecast:

Looking for books by author? Type in "books by" and the author's name to display current works:

Friday Google Tidbit: New Knowledge Graph on Google Search

Happy Friday!

This week Google updated Google Search to include a new "knowledge graph" when you search for a famous person, location, or health condition. The knowledge graph contains peer reviewed information on the right side of the search results. This could be a great way to introduce a topic or have students find quick facts.

I really like how the sources of information are listed to help you establish credibility. Also the graphical interface is very student friendly. Google wants feedback about this new tool so if you use it, feel free to click on the feedback link in the lower right corner of the knowledge graph.

Friday Google Tidbit: Advanced Search Tools for Google Search

Google Search has some new search tools that just might make your everyday tasks and searches a little easier. Need a timer to display while your students are taking an assessment? Type "timer" into Google Search and you will get a simple timer to display.

Another search tool is to type "define:" and a word you would like to define. Google Search will bring up a dictionary with definitions and the ability to hear the word pronounced correctly.

You can also type in a math problem in the Google Search bar to bring up a basic calculator.

My favorite Google Search tool is the unit converter, you can convert money, measurements, temperatures, and more! Type in "unit converter" or what you want to convert, such as "feet to miles" to bring up this nifty tool.

These are just a few examples of how to use Google Search for everyday tasks, do you have another favorite to share?
