Inventory in Destiny

You can start your EOY inventory at any time now.  Please be sure to have your inventories completed by May 31.  We have some chromebooks and PCs sprinkled across the county that have been entered into Destiny under the incorrect model.  If you find items that need to be corrected, let us know and we can help you move the items to the correct model.  Having a model incorrect in  Destiny could mean the difference between having priority discards and devices that still have some life left in them.  In addition to checking model numbers during your inventory, the intended use field should also be verified.

It is our recommendation that your school's inventory be completed/finalized before you begin your DLMI report.  Click here for inventory notes.

Remember, these numbers drive your school's tech profiles as well as the state using this information for your school's report card.

Friday G Suite Update: End of Year Tips for Classroom!

This week, we are sharing strategies for wrapping up your Google Classroom for the year.

Clean Up Your Google Drive

Google Classroom creates a "Classroom" folder in your Google Drive. In the folder is a sub-folder for each class you have created. You can move the folders and I recommend making a new favorites folder and moving any favorite assignments or project examples to this folder. It will make it easy to add assignments or handouts next year to your new classes.

Another good idea is to create a 2016-2017 sub-folder in your "Classroom" folder and move all your current courses into the folder. This will make it clean and ready to go for next year.

Archive 2016-2017 Classes

Google has an archive tool to save your completed classes and remove them from your home screen. Note that you cannot add new assignments and students can no longer turn in assignments once a class is archived.

To archive a class, login to Google Classroom and click on the three dots next to the class you wish to archive.

To see a list of your archived classes, click on the  button and scroll to the bottom, then click on "archived classes".

Start Planning Ahead

It is not too early to go ahead and create your new classes for next year. I recommend creating new classes each semester or year, depending on how often you get new students.  Google Classroom has the ability to save assignments and announcements as drafts and reuse assignments, you can use this time to pre-populate your classes as well as add your syllabus and resource documents.

Don't forget that you can now schedule posts to appear for your students on the first day of 2017-2018!

Friendly Reminders for the End of the Year

Some Friendly reminders:

1- If you have any devices, projectors, etc. out for repair, be sure to contact the vendors to get the repairs completed, the items returned, and invoices submitted for payment ASAP. If you have some that will not be returned until June, you may want to inform the business office.

2- If you have any Chromebooks or iPads that have been Lost, Stolen or Damaged (no longer usable) send April Richardson a spreadsheet by the end of May that includes Your Contact information, School, JCS Barcode, and Serial Number. Update the records in Resource Manager (Asset manager) as well.  Email:aprilrichardson@johnston.k12.nc.us

2 IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

1) Prior to sending Chromebooks and iPads out for repair, contact April Richardson to deprovision the Chromebooks and/or Wipe the iPads.

2)  Contact Michelle Turnage when you have completed and your principal has signed off on the DLMI (the new AMTR).

Please let Michelle Turnage know if you have any questions!

5 and Counting...

Testing is just

Days away!

Have you talked to your administration?  Do you have a plan to get your school ready? There are several things suggested to prepare so the day of testing your school is ready.

1. Any wireless devices being used should be pulled out and logged in to make sure they have received the new anti-virus software (look for the green shield in the system tray). This DOES NOT apply to the remaining Novell schools: Cleveland E, Meadow, River Dell, Riverwood E, Wilson's Mills, Cooper, Selma E, and West Clayton.

2. Your students (each student testing online) and computers (any computer being used for testing) should have the tutorial run before the day of testing.  Your testing coordinator should have the links for these tutorials.

3. Check to make sure all your computers are updated - this might require hardwiring for some devices.  If you are in an AD environment run gpupdates - this can be run by any user.  Note: if your cart is rarely used this could take a while, so you might consider staggering it and do a few at the time.  Planning ahead can help make this less painful.

Thanks for being proactive in preparing for a successful testing season.
