OER is coming in just 1 month
I'm super excited about the upcoming rollout of the GoOpen OER - December 15 is the anticipated release date from NCDPI. I can't wait to share more information about our Johnston County Hub soon. However, in the mean time we (the OER steering team) would like to seek information from teachers to help us know where to go next and what resources are needed most.

Homework Gap Survey - Please share with Parents
Homework Gap Survey
Nationally, seven in 10 teachers assign homework that requires Internet access and digital equipment. But an estimated five million households in the United States with school-age children do not have Internet access at home, and/or other required resources. Students that fall into this “homework gap”—households where Internet access is limited or unavailable—lag behind in education and are less competitive in the workforce.
The State of North Carolina wants to help ensure no public school student falls into the homework gap. To do so, the state needs to know how widespread the homework gap is and potential challenges students face in accessing digital resources.
To identify this data, NCDPI Digital Teaching and Learning staff will partner with the Broadband Infrastructure Office and the Friday Institute to conduct a survey of North Carolina households with K-12 students. We encourage you to share this survey with parents and caregivers in your community so policy makers and education stakeholders can design solutions to address this issue.
The anonymous, short survey is available in English and Spanish (Encuesta de Accesso a Internet K-12 en el Hogar). The survey closes April 30. If you have questions, concerns or feedback, please contact the Broadband Infrastructure Office or 919.754.6695.

New DPI Survey Available for Teachers who use Schoolnet!
DPI is asking for your feedback on Schoolnet!
Please take the time to complete the survey by November 24th, it is very important that DPI hears from our district and the issues we have been experiencing.

Home Base (Schoolnet) Instructional Materials and Assessment Survey for Teachers –
Teachers are asked to take a few minutes and participate in the Home Base (Schoolnet) Instructional Materials and Assessment Survey. The purpose of this survey is to gather information about teachers’ knowledge, use, and perception of the quality of the instructional materials and classroom assessment items in Schoolnet.
We understand that there is a wide range of use of Schoolnet. Whether teachers have used the materials or not, the information they provide through this survey will be very useful for helping us communicate with other teachers about the system and will provide some important baseline data. The survey should take between 5 and 15 minutes to complete, depending on the teacher’s use ofSchoolnet. All responses are confidential.

STNA
STNA stands for School Technology Needs Assessment. As a district, we have an opportunity to participate in a study to provide us with great data to help us (as individual schools) make decisions tailored to the needs of our differing teaching and learning situations.
From the ServeCenter at UNC-G:
The STNA was created to help building-level planners (you!) collect and analyze needs data related to implementation of the NC IMPACT technology integration model, as well as other contemporary frameworks for examining technology use in teaching and learning.
The STNA is typically accessed through a web address unique to each school, using a free online surveying system provided by SERVE. After a the survey has been completed by all staff members, it is closed and the address of a web-based report is provided to the individual responsible for coordinating the needs assessment.
If you are genuinely interested in gaining data to help your building's leadership team make data-driven decisions regarding your school's technology needs, please email kathyprice@johnston.k12.nc.us by 5pm on Wednesday to let her know you're interested, and she will send you the link for your school. All you have to do is ensure at least 85% of your staff participates!

Services Survey
As a new department, ISD (Instructional Support and Development) has been working on continuous improvement in our efforts to support you at the schools. Now that the first nine weeks has passed, we would like to take a step back and evaluate how we are doing.
We'd like you to take just a few minutes (we estimate it will take less than 5 minutes) to complete a brief survey about the services our department offers to you. Please complete by December 17, 2012. Here is the link: http://bit.ly/jcts.
This survey can be completed by all CTAs, media coordinators and administrators. Your principals were given the link at the December K-12 principal meeting. Please send the link to your administrators and media coordinators as their input, as well as yours, is important to us.
