Speak Up Survey Open
 Speak Up 2017 survey is open for participation October 16th through January 19, 2018 with results released in February 2018. Speak Up is an annual research project conducted by Project Tomorrow, a national education nonprofit group that collects and reports on the views of K-12 students, teachers, administrators, and parents on education and technology. More than 5 million students, educators, parents, administrators, and community members have shared their views regarding the use of educational technology through the Speak Up surveys. The password for Johnston County is speakup17. Please encourage teachers, students and parents to participate (one great way to promote it is to put the information on your website). SpeakUp Survey is open!
Join the conversation about
the use of technology for learning through Speak Up, a National Research
Project. Since 2003, more than 4.5 million K-12 education stakeholders have
participated in the annual online surveys. Data findings are shared each year
with federal, state and local policymakers to inform education programs,
policies and funding.
Surveys will be open for input from
now through December 12 at: www.speakup4schools.org/speakup2016.
Instructions for completing the
Speak Up survey
- Go to this link: http://www.speakup4schools.org/speakup2016
- Click on the appropriate survey (Student,
Educator, Parent, Community member).
- Follow the given instructions to
access the survey. Begin by entering your school zip or clicking on
the drop down button and select your state, then go to the next line and
type in your school name to find your school.
- Students will choose their grade level
and enter in their school specific password: speakup16
- Parents and Educators will NOT need the password to access the survey.
Please note that participation in the survey is optional, however, if you do choose to share the information on your website or in your classes you might want to access additional promotional materials please visit: http://www.tomorrow.org/speakup/promo.html

NCTIES Early Bird registration is open until December 31. The conference is March 3-4, 2016 at Raleigh Convention Center. Cost is $135 if you register early. If you have a team of 4 from your school you can get a FREE registration for your principal/assistant principal to attend as well. Check it out: https://conference.ncties.org/2016/registration/

Tidbits for the Fall

2. Media Note: Barnes and Noble is offering a trade in for old tablets towards the new Samsung Nook. If you are interested that offer is available from October 7-November 7. You can also ask Jackie Lorge our representative questions she is expecting a baby in mid-November so the sooner the better :). Here is the Flyer.
3. Upcoming Learning Opportunities:
- November 5 and 24 - code.org - after school offering (must attend both days) Sign up in MyLearningPlan.
- November 6-8 - Any Barnes and Noble location - MakerFaire - demos, play space, get ideas for starting a MakerSpace, etc. Check out this event on their website.
- November 17 - 4:00 pm - South Smithfield Broadcasting demo and training for anyone interested in attending
- November 19 - 3:00 OR 4:00 - West Campus Room 250 Follett Shelf with Karei Swift from Follett (all media please plan to attend one of the sessions)
- December 1- 3:30-5:00pm, West Campus Computer Lab, Google It Up, Learn how to use Google Apps for Education to organize your classroom and let student innovation shine (Register on My Learning Plan).
- December 3- 3:30-5:00pm, West Campus Computer Lab, Differentiate with Google Classroom, Learn how to use Google Classroom to differentiate learning in your classroom. See example lessons and activities to get you started on the path to differentiation (Register on My Learning Plan).

Participation in the Speak up Survey is optional but if have a few minutes to take the survey or better yet let your student take it we would appreciate your participation. The county has already been registered and the password is displayed in the image. NCDPI would like to have some information from every district across the state. Speak up 2013
Sructions for completing the Speak Up survey (from October 2nd, to December 20th),
PLEASE note this is completely optional if you want to participate, you might choose to put the link on your website.
2. Click on the appropriate survey (Student, Educator, Parent).
3. Follow the given instructions to access the survey. Begin by clicking on the drop down button and select your state, then go to the next line and type in your school name to find your school.
4. Students will choose their grade level and enter the password: (district assigned survey password- su2010 is the Johnston County Password, it is case sensitive)
5. Parents and educators will choose and click the appropriate survey (no password needed).
6. Complete the survey.
