IMPORTANT Changes Coming June 27, 2022 to ALL JCPS Google Accounts: Google Will Make Changes to Files/Items Stored in Multiple Google Drive File Locations

Who is impacted:

ALL JCPS Google Accounts

What is changing:

Google is replacing files and folders stored in multiple locations in Google Drive, in most cases shortcuts.  In the past, users could put duplicate files/items in different locations, causing multiple folders and confusion.

Most importantly, for any SHARED Drives/folders/files, a shortcut will NOT be created for files that are not visible to everyone who has access to the shared folder.

It may appear to users that their files/folders are gone but they still exist. Users may need to search for them or browse through other folder hierarchies to find them.

While potentially disruptive to users, this is preferred by organizations with data privacy concerns because it eliminates those who do not have access to files from seeing them listed in a shared folder.

CTAs and school library media specialists received emails to alert staff to the coming Google changes. Please continue to share with colleagues at your sites.
