As your school makes decisions to purchase iPads, please encourage school administration to also purchase AppleCare with each device.  While AppleCare gives each device technical support as well as software support, we also get hardware coverage.  AppleCare has been overwhelmingly helpful in events of broken screens.  By default, the warranty is for one year, but your school can purchase the Protection Plan or AppleCare+.
