Your stream page contains all of the images you have "touched" and any images created by people you follow. To save an image to this website for later, you need to touch it. You can also follow the creator to automatically see all images that person creates.</div>

First you have to upload your image. ThinkLink allows you to import photos directly from Facebook, Flickr, or any other website by copying the image URL. You can also upload a picture from your computer or media storage.</div>

I have uploaded my photo. Now I need to give my photo a title and start adding "tags" to make it interactive.  A tag is a link anywhere on the image to a website, video, or text resource. You can search for content to tag on the left side of the screen. Click anywhere on the image to add a tag.</div>

This is what my photo looks like as I am adding tags. You will need to click on the green save button to save each tag and the image when you are finished. You can also edit the sharing settings to allow anyone to edit the tags, this is great for collaboration projects.</div>

I can edit my image, as well as share it using social media, email, or embed the image within a blog or website. You can see the statistics for the image, how many times it has been viewed or touched, as well as delete the image if desired.</div>

There are thousands of images available by browsing so before creating a new image, I would suggest searching to see if an image already exists. ThingLink is a great resource as well as creative project idea for your students. I can imagine a wonderful virtual gallery of interactive images about a particular subject or topic of interest. </div>

It hides both your personal data as a teacher as well as the students and parents cell phone numbers. It is a very simple and easy to use communication tool.</div>

There is a lag time between when you send the message and when your account updates with your subscription. It took about an hour after I sent my initial message for my account to confirm my subscription. This is the same process parents and students will need to follow to subscribe to your class messages.</div>

Within the red box, you can type new messages for your class and send them instantly or schedule them ahead of time (think about reminders for tests or projects being due, you can schedule reminders in advance!). The green box shows how many people are subscribed to each class. The blue box is a reminder of how to subscribe to this class and has a link to print instructions for parents and students.</div>

There are many ways for you to customize your Voki. The first menu of buttons edits the character type and body, clothing, and accessories. The second menu controls the voice. You can record your own voice, upload a voice file, or use the generated voice. You can also change your Voki's background and the player frame around the Voki. The slider toolbar beneath the Voki edits the size of facial features and the color of eyes, lips, and hair.</div>

Wednesday Web Tool: Create and Find Interactive Images with ThingLink!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. This week, we are sharing a great resource for making and sharing interactive images.

To get started, go to: http://www.thinglink.com

You will need to register for a free account to be able to edit and create new images.

Once you register, you will be taken to your "stream" page.

Your stream page contains all of the images you have "touched" and any images created by people you follow. To save an image to this website for later, you need to touch it. You can also follow the creator to automatically see all images that person creates.

On the top left corner of the page, you have the ability to see your images "Me", browse for new images by keyword "Browse", or create new interactive images by clicking "Create."

I am going to create a new image.

First you have to upload your image. ThinkLink allows you to import photos directly from Facebook, Flickr, or any other website by copying the image URL. You can also upload a picture from your computer or media storage.

Once you upload your photo, it will open in a box like this:

I have uploaded my photo. Now I need to give my photo a title and start adding "tags" to make it interactive. A tag is a link anywhere on the image to a website, video, or text resource. You can search for content to tag on the left side of the screen. Click anywhere on the image to add a tag.

This is what my photo looks like as I am adding tags. You will need to click on the green save button to save each tag and the image when you are finished. You can also edit the sharing settings to allow anyone to edit the tags, this is great for collaboration projects.

I can edit my image, as well as share it using social media, email, or embed the image within a blog or website. You can see the statistics for the image, how many times it has been viewed or touched, as well as delete the image if desired.

There are thousands of images available by browsing so before creating a new image, I would suggest searching to see if an image already exists. ThingLink is a great resource as well as creative project idea for your students. I can imagine a wonderful virtual gallery of interactive images about a particular subject or topic of interest.

Wednesday Web Tool: Remind 101

This week we are sharing an excellent communication tool for parents and students called Remind 101. Remind 101 allows parents and students to subscribe to classroom updates via text message. It hides both your personal data as a teacher as well as the students and parents cell phone numbers. It is a very simple and easy to use communication tool.

To get started, you will need to go to: https://www.remind101.com/

You will need to create an account before you can use the service:

Once your account is created, you will need to add your first class. You can make as many classes as you would like or keep the students together in one class.

The next step is to subscribe to your class so you can start sending messages. You will need a text capable cell phone for this step.

There is a lag time between when you send the message and when your account updates with your subscription. It took about an hour after I sent my initial message for my account to confirm my subscription. This is the same process parents and students will need to follow to subscribe to your class messages.

After you have added a class and subscribed to it, you will be taken to your account dashboard. This is what mine looks like:

Within the red box, you can type new messages for your class and send them instantly or schedule them ahead of time (think about reminders for tests or projects being due, you can schedule reminders in advance!). The green box shows how many people are subscribed to each class. The blue box is a reminder of how to subscribe to this class and has a link to print instructions for parents and students.

Wednesday Web Tool: Voki

Welcome to the start of the 2013-2014 school year!

The animated message above was created with the free web tool Voki. Voki allows you to make customized video messages up to 60 seconds long for free. Want to learn how?

To get started, go to www.voki.com.

You will need to register for a free account. Once you have created your account and logged in, you will see this screen:

Select the create tab to make a new Voki.

There are many ways for you to customize your Voki. The first menu of buttons edits the character type and body, clothing, and accessories. The second menu controls the voice. You can record your own voice, upload a voice file, or use the generated voice. You can also change your Voki's background and the player frame around the Voki. The slider toolbar beneath the Voki edits the size of facial features and the color of eyes, lips, and hair.

Once you are happy with your Voki, click the publish icon and your creation will be saved.

You can add your Voki to your school center page by copying the code in the box and then use the HTML editor option in the edit function of the school center page you wish to display your Voki.
