Kick Off a Year of Reading by Showing Books Circulated!

Now that the students are back in the building, they will be excited to start checking out books from the school library media center. How great would it be to keep track of the books checked out for the school year, so everyone knows just how big of an impact our school librarians have in getting books in our students' hands and helping grow readers? Not only is this fun for students, but it is a great advocacy piece.

Place Value Flip Chart to Show How Many Books Have Been Checked Out

If you would like a way to make book checkouts more visible to all stakeholders, here is a great idea from a couple of librarians from across the country. Blake Hopper @travelingguybrarian shared an idea on Instagram to track books checked out throughout the school year using a place value flip chart (click here for one on Amazon). Librarian Shannon McClintock Miller took the idea and personalized her place value flip chart using Canva for Education. See her blog post about doing this HERE.

Creating a Digital Version of the Place Value Flip Chart

If you need a digital version of the place value flip chart to post on your website or digital signage, check out instructions that Shannon McClintock Miller has posted HERE. Using a Google Slide, you can share with anyone who can't step into the library, how many books your students have checked out.

Use Destiny Discover to Find Circulation Statistics to Update Place Value Flip Chart

Check out step-by-step instructions on how to configure Destiny Discover's dashboard in order to track book circulation for the day HERE.

Hopefully you have had an amazing day today with students back in the building!
