20 PC Refresh April 2014

Greetings!

To assist with PC Refresh, ISD is pleased to announce a purchase of 20 PCs (PC only) for all schools district wide.  This is a refresh program; therefore, sites are asked to select 20 of your oldest computers for discard.  If PCs are 2007 models or older they will be discarded, if they are 2008 models or newer they may be re-purposed in the district. Please work through the following steps to help us with this process.

  1. Use the link below to access a Google doc to record the PCs you are discarding.  Locate your tab at the bottom of the spreadsheet and enter the requested information for your twenty.  Note:  Once your new PCs arrive, we will ask you to revisit the Google doc to enter information on those as well.

  1. Once you have entered the PCs for discard on the spreadsheet, email Michelle Turnage for approval.

  1. If PCs are 2007 and older, mark the devices for discard as Retired in Asset Manager.

  1. Prior to leaving for the summer:

    1. Place all discards in a central location.
    2. Label the devices “PC Refresh” so the tech and Facility Services staff can identify them.
    3. Tell us where the devices will be located via email to Stephanie Canning at Stephaniecanning@johnston.k12.nc.us

NOTE: If PCs are 2008 and newer they will be collected and re-purposed in the district.  ISD will                  handle Asset Management on those devices.

  1. The tech staff will harvest memory and/or parts as needed.

  1. The tech staff will then request your site to submit a Maintenance Direct Request for PC removal.  Click here for Discard Process.

  1. Prep the new PCs.  The district will have almost 900 PCs to image during the summer so we ask that you help us with the process below:

    1. For your convenience, the 20 PC specifications have been entered in Asset Manager for you.   Once the PCs arrive, use the “Accepting On Orders” process to receive the devices.  You will assign the barcodes and then update the file with serial number, computer name, intended use, and home location.  The On Order Directions are located in the Tech Contact folder.

    1. Enter the data of the new PCs on the  20 PC Refresh April 2014 Worksheet.  You will need the location of the new PCs, the serial numbers, the Asset barcodes, indicate whether it is a teacher or student device, and the mac address. Here are the directions to obtain the Mac Address.

    1. Set-up the PC in the classroom/lab before you leave for the summer.

    1. Label all new PCs as student or teacher.

    1. Submit an IT Direct Request for the new PCs to be imaged.  Be sure to include as much information as possible including the location of the new PCs, the serial numbers, the Asset barcodes, indicate whether it is a teacher or student device, and the mac address.
