Our tremendously terrific friend, Doug Denton, has created accounts for the Explore and PLAN assessments.

Step 1:

  • Middle Schools: Log into a computer which contains a working DVD drive using the username EXPLORE and password explore.  (The password is case sensitive, all lower case.)
  • High Schools: Log into a computer which contains a working DVD drive using the username PLAN and password plan.  (The password is case sensitive, all lower case.)
* As always, please have a staff member login to each workstation.  Do not broadcast this username/password combination to students.

Step 2
Insert DVD, and wait for the DVD to automatically open.  Students will only have access to the DVD player and the volume control.

How the DVDs Work:

PLAYBACK
  1. Read the verbal instructions from the manual.  Instructions are not included on the DVDs.
  2. Hand each student one disc at a time just before you begin timing that test.
  3. When the playback software opens, instruct students to click PLAY on-screen (will normally turn red when the mouse scrolls over it.)
  4. The discs go from one track to the next automatically.  When a disc reaches the end of a "Title," it normally proceeds to the first chapter/track in the next title.
  5. Instruct students to use the "Previous Track" and "Next Track" buttons to locate tracks they want to hear again.  The location of these buttons will vary by software program.
  6. The test directions students hear are specific to oral presentation mode and will not match the test directions on the printed booklet.
TRACKING
  • Each disc is divided into tracks or "Chapters," so students can repeat a question or a set of response choices without listening to more text than necessary.
  • Chapters are grouped into Titles (up to 99 per title).
  • Each question is on one track, and the response choices are on a separate track.
  • Most passages are broken into tracks by paragraph.
  • Directions for each test are on the first track of each disc.  Information that applies to ALL tests is at the beginning of Disc 1 (English).
If the DVD disk menu does not appear:
  1. Verify your computer contains a DVD drive instead of a CD drive by looking at the logo on the drive door.  All DVD drives will state DVD with a disk drive symbol.
  2. Another tip is to minimize the Novell application launcher window to see if the DVD disk menu is hidden behind the Novell application launcher window.  If the DVD disk menu still does not appear, move to another computer.
