They say a picture is worth a thousand words. This week we are featuring an easy tool to capture a screenshot or record a screencast on a Chromebook or within the Chrome browser. Nimbus Screenshot and Screencast is a free Chrome extension that can be added to your Chrome from the Chrome Web Store.
Click on the blue, "+ Add to Chrome" button and allow the extension to install.
You will see a message similar to the one above, click on "Add extension." Please note that you may have to add the Nimbus extension to each desktop computer you use and once on a Chromebook (Chromebooks remember the extensions you add and will pop-up when you sign-in).
Once it is installed, look for the
Nimbus icon on the top right corner of the Chrome browser. Click on the icon to see all the options. Nimbus allows you to capture all or part of your screen, as well as the entire page.
Once you capture your screen, you can edit your screenshot with text, shapes, and drawings.
Once you are finished editing your screenshot, click "Done" to save your image.
You can save images locally, to Google Drive, or within Nimbus if you create a free account.
I really like the options that Nimbus offers for creating screencasts. Choose the record video feature and you will see these options:
You can choose to record with or without sound and with a custom length countdown to prepare for the recording. Once you are finished recording you have the option to save the video to your local drive or to Nimbus.
There are numerous situations where capturing screenshots or a screencast can be very helpful for your students and parents, such as homework help, flipped lessons, and "how-to" guides for class activities. I hope that you find
