This Thursday, we would like to share a few common tickets we are seeing in FMX and ask for your support in helping teachers understand these issues. We appreciate all you do to help advance teaching and learning at your school. For each commonly reported issue, we will discuss the process and in italics, have a reminder that you can copy/paste to share with staff.

Google Classroom Teacher Status

When a teacher visits classroom.google.com and clicks on the Teacher button, it sends a request to the Digital Learning Team to approve their status as a teacher. This is necessary to prevent students from creating Google Classrooms. Our team checks the approval requests multiple times per school day, however, if a request is made late at night or over the weekend, it may be the next school day before access is granted. This is something that cannot be expanded to give CTA's access to approve requests.

Staff Reminder:
Access to Google Classroom as a teacher is not instant and that nothing is wrong, no FMX ticket is needed unless it has been over 24 hours during the school week since you clicked on the Teacher button and you still cannot create classes.

New Teacher/Student Access to Instructional Apps

All students and staff have to be added to PowerSchool and scheduled for classes in order for instructional apps to generate accounts. For the subject area-specific applications, a specific class that matches the subject area must be assigned to the user. For example, in order for Studies Weekly to appear on a teacher's ClassLink page, they must be assigned as the lead teacher for a K-5 section of Social Studies in PowerSchool. This process can take 48 hours once they are entered into PowerSchool. The first overnight sync updates ClassLink and the second overnight sync updates the instructional app.

New students must have an email address listed in PowerSchool in order for instructional apps to generate accounts. The email address field is not "writable" in PowerSchool so our district PowerSchool team has to import student email addresses before their 48-hour window of updates begins.

If there is a new student in your school, please allow 3 days after they have been added to PowerSchool for instructional apps to generate ( one day for the email address, one day to update ClassLink, and one day for all instructional apps).

Staff Reminder:
Once new students/staff are entered in PowerSchool and assigned to classes, please allow 48 hours for staff accounts and 72 hours for student accounts to generate all instructional apps before entering FMX tickets.

Student QR Codes

Students in K-2 can use a Quick Card to log in to ClassLink. The Quick Cards can be printed by the teacher of record using the Quick Cards app in ClassLink. Please note that new students will not have quick cards generated until they are in PowerSchool and have an email address listed.

The QR code for ClassLink has "QuickCard" in bold letters at the top of it. It cannot be used to log in to NCEdCloud.

Students in K-5 can use a QR code to log into the NCEdCloud (Canvas and Amplify for mClass testing). The teacher of record can print QR codes for their class by logging into the NCEdCloud and clicking on the drop-down menu at the top of the screen for "People" and then selecting student QR codes on the left side menu.

The QR code for NCEdCloud has "Identity Automation" at the bottom of the QR code and cannot be used to log in to ClassLink.

Staff Reminder:
K-2 students may have two QR codes to use. The ClassLink QuickCard is only for ClassLink access and has "QuickCard" at the top of it. The NCEdCloud QR Code is only for access to the NCEdCloud (Canvas and Amplify/mClass) and it has "Identity Automation" on the bottom of the QR code.
