We are excited to offer the NC DLS Course for Digital Learning Credit

North Carolina’s State Board of Education recently voted to adopt the International Society for Technology in Education’s (ISTE) Standards for Students. With this decision, the Tar Heel State becomes the 15th state to use the newest set of student standards as a guiding framework to support educators and leaders in transforming education.

With this action, the North Carolina State Board of Education provides clear guidance that empowering student voice and student-driven learning as outlined in the ISTE Standards for Students are primary goals for state educators.

This course, created by the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation at NC State University, in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, is designed to focus on each standard, what it looks like, as well as how to integrate it into everyday curriculum and instruction.

By the end of this course, participants will:

  • Learn to foster the skills and apply strategies needed to cultivate digital-age thinkers and learners;

  • Understand these standards and how to integrate them into instruction to promote digital-age learning;  and,

  • Unpack the needs and commitments to implementing each standard into practice and the learning culture.

The beauty of the NC Digital Learning Standards for Students is that they are directly aligned to existing digital-age standards and expectations. In each unit, we will highlight the direct connections each student standard has to both the North Carolina Digital Learning Competencies for Classroom Teachers, as well as the DPI Pillars of Personalized Learning. Further connections, materials, and resources can be found in the course’s Unit 0: Introduction. You might also find this website helpful as you work through the course, which includes crosswalks to other content areas and parent resources.
Here is the link to Sign up - Media and Tech Leaders are highly encouraged to participate in this course as these are your new standards. However, please encourage teachers to sign up as well!

1.0 CEU's of Digital Learning will be issued to all those who complete the course by May 1, 2021
