Computer Science for North Carolina 
If you (or one of your teachers) is doing a great job with Computer Science/Coding implementation please consider applying to participate.

In recognition of Computer Science Week, Dec. 3-8, 2018, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, NCDPI, is excited to announce that we will be hosting a Computer Science Student Expo on Dec. 6, 2018.  The Expo will be held at NCDPI on 301 N. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM.  Attendees of the Expo will be NCDPI Staff, NC Board of Education members, legislators, and other community members.

We are seeking 16 teams of students to showcase how they are learning and utilizing computer science in their schools.  We would like four teams from each of the following grade bands:  K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.  Student teams may have up to four students to share their computer science knowledge.  Each team will be provided a six foot table, a power strip, and a 6X6 ft area of floor space.  They will present 16 rotations that will be 5 minutes per rotation.  Students may present as a whole group each of the 16 rotations, in pairs every other rotation, individually every fourth rotation, or in any other combination that is appropriate for the team.

Applications will be evaluated based on the
  • Alignment to the K-12 Computer Science Framework https://k12cs.org/framework-statements-by-grade-band/,
  • Alignment to other curriculum areas,
  • Connection(s) to a career, and
  • Presentation skills and knowledge of Computer Science demonstrated by students in the video provided.

Accepted schools will receive $1250 by Nov. 30, 2018 to use at their discretion for travel, equipment, t-shirts, etc.
