Let’s face it! Many of our students know more about technology than we do. The problem? They don’t know how to make good choices when that technology is online. It is important to help them understand how to use that technology responsibly and appropriately...to have Digital Citizenship/Ethics. With technology in the classrooms and not just in labs run by the technology teacher, this has become the responsibility of all who interact/teach students. It’s important to set your expectations for their digital use at the beginning of the year and in turn set lifelong digital habits. Here is a resources to make this easier for you.
Join Common Sense Media for free to access to Educator materials to teach Digital Citizenship. As an educator, Common Sense Media can provide you with numerous free tools for teaching digital citizenship in the classroom such as lesson plans, assessments, posters, Unit lessons on specific hot topics, etc.
Once logged in, click on the Educators link to access the different resources available or click on the link to access the Educator page.
For lesson plans, click on Digital Citizenship, then Scope and Sequence.
From here, you can search by topic or browse the lessons by units.
Each unit has an interactive student assessment too!
